9. Ringed Seal
The ringed seal, a species found in northern Antarctica, faces significant challenges due to melting ice caused by climate change. These seals rely on sea ice for breeding and protecting their young, but melting ice reduces the availability of suitable habitats. In addition, ice breaks caused by warming temperatures frequently separate young seals from their mothers, leading to increased mortality rates.
As a result, the population of ringed seals is declining rapidly, posing threats not only to their species but also to the polar bear population, which relies on them as a primary food source. Urgent conservation efforts are needed to protect the remaining habitat of ringed seals and mitigate the impacts of climate change on their survival.
