20. Indiana – Domestic Cattle

Domestic cattle may not seem threatening, but they are the deadliest animals in Indiana due to trampling incidents, especially among farmers and agricultural workers. Bulls and even cows can become aggressive when protecting calves or during breeding. Most fatal attacks occur on farms, particularly when handlers underestimate the animals’ strength and temperament. Cattle weigh over 1,000 pounds and can easily knock a person down. To prevent injuries, handlers should remain vigilant, never turn their backs, and use proper safety gates and handling techniques. It’s important to train new farm workers and to recognize signs of aggression early to avoid confrontations.
