31. Montana – Wolverine

Montana’s grizzly bears are among the most formidable predators in North America. Found in forested and mountainous regions, they are powerful animals capable of running up to 35 mph and delivering fatal blows with their claws. Though attacks on humans are rare, they do occur—especially when a bear is surprised, feels threatened, or is protecting cubs. Grizzlies are naturally curious and may approach campsites in search of food. Carrying bear spray, making noise while hiking, and properly storing food in bear-proof containers are crucial safety practices. Never run from a grizzly; instead, back away slowly while avoiding eye contact. Understanding bear behavior is key to preventing dangerous encounters.
