33. Nevada – Africanized Honey Bee

Africanized honey bees, also known as “killer bees,” pose a serious threat in Nevada. These aggressive insects were introduced to the U.S. in the 1990s and have since spread across the Southwest. Unlike regular honey bees, Africanized bees defend their hives in large swarms and will pursue threats up to a quarter-mile. Their stings are not more venomous, but the sheer number of stings delivered during an attack can be fatal—especially to allergic individuals or small animals. To avoid encounters, stay away from hives and don’t disturb swarms. If attacked, run in a straight line and seek shelter indoors immediately. Do not swat at the bees.
