4. Utah – American Wild Mustang

Wild mustangs may seem like a romantic symbol of the American West, but in Utah’s remote rangelands, they pose unexpected dangers. These powerful horses are highly territorial and unpredictable when startled or provoked. Though generally shy around humans, they can become aggressive when defending their herd, particularly during breeding season. A startled mustang can charge or kick with deadly force—enough to break bones or cause fatal injuries. Additionally, vehicle collisions involving mustangs are a serious risk in rural Utah, often resulting in severe accidents. Observing these animals from a distance is essential. Never approach, attempt to feed, or corral a wild horse. Their sheer size and strength make them one of Utah’s most deceptively dangerous wild animals.
