6. Arizona – Arizona Bark Scorpion

The Arizona Bark Scorpion, though small, is one of the most dangerous animals in the state. Measuring under 3 inches, it delivers a potent neurotoxic sting that can cause excruciating pain, numbness, and temporary paralysis. Young children and the elderly are at the greatest risk of severe complications. These scorpions are nocturnal and often hide in shoes, bedding, and clothing. Most common in southern Arizona, particularly around Phoenix and Tucson, they thrive in homes, under rocks, and in tree bark. Residents are advised to seal home cracks, shake out linens and shoes, and use UV lights to spot them at night.
