Located in Mason County, the origins of this name trace back to a local hunting camp established in the early twentieth century. According to regional historians, a group of hunters was drinking heavily when one attempted to shoot a walnut off a volunteer’s head. A game warden witnessed the stunt and called the group completely goofy.
