32. Arizona – Maryvale (Phoenix)
Maryvale is one of Phoenix’s most widely recognized neighborhoods when discussing crime patterns in Arizona. Phoenix is a relatively safe place and for a mega city with a population over 1 million, it only sees a violent crime rate of 808 per 100k residents and a majority of that being concentrated in a couple of neighborhoods . Over the years, Maryvale has experienced higher rates of violent crime, property crime, and gang-related activity compared to other parts of the city. Rapid population growth and dense housing development created pressure on local infrastructure and public services. While redevelopment and community efforts have improved parts of the area, challenges remain uneven across different blocks. Arizona has many safe suburban zones, but Maryvale continues to stand out as a long-term example of urban strain within a major metro.
