4. Louisiana – Southside (Monroe)
Southside Monroe is often cited when discussing Louisiana’s smaller-city crime concerns. The area has experienced higher levels of violent crime compared to many surrounding regions, alongside persistent poverty and limited economic expansion. While larger cities like New Orleans and Baton Rouge receive more attention, Monroe with a population of around 46,000 and a violent crime rate of 2,104 per 100k residents makes one of the most dangerous cities in America. Monroe’s issues are more localized but still significant within the state context. Certain neighborhoods face recurring issues tied to gang activity and property crime. The Southside in particular reflects how smaller urban centers can still develop concentrated safety concerns even without large population size or national visibility.
