Located in the Izu Islands, Miyake-jima features the active volcano Mount Oyama. Toxic sulfurous gases constantly escape from the volcano, and residents must wear gas masks when venturing outside. Sirens alert the population when gas levels become dangerously high. Despite evacuation orders during eruptions, some locals remain, facing constant threats from unpredictable volcanic activity.
