Once a site of extensive nuclear testing between 1946 and 1958, Bikini Atoll remains dangerous due to lingering radiation in the soil. Although declared “safe” in 1997, locals avoid resettling, and eating local produce is discouraged. Shark populations around the atoll have also surged, making diving risky despite the island’s natural beauty.
