12. Louisiana
Louisiana’s humid subtropical climate and extensive wetland ecosystems create highly favorable conditions for spider populations. Swamps, marshes, forests, and residential areas all provide ideal habitats for a wide variety of species. Common spiders include wolf spiders, orb-weavers, jumping spiders, and fishing spiders, which are often seen near water sources and vegetation. Orb-weavers are especially common and create large, visible webs in outdoor spaces. Louisiana is also home to medically significant spiders such as the southern black widow and brown recluse, typically found in quiet, undisturbed areas like sheds, basements, and outdoor storage. While these spiders are present, most species are not dangerous and help control insect populations naturally. The combination of heat, moisture, and dense plant life ensures that spider activity remains high year-round, making Louisiana one of the most spider-rich environments in the southern United States.
