7. Oklahoma
Oklahoma’s warm climate, open grasslands, and agricultural landscapes create ideal conditions for a large and active spider population. The state experiences frequent spider encounters due to the abundance of insects that serve as a primary food source. Common species include wolf spiders, jumping spiders, and grass spiders, which are often found in fields, lawns, and rural structures. Funnel-web spiders are also common and are known for building sheet-like webs in grassy areas. Oklahoma is particularly notable for its brown recluse population, which is among the most significant in the United States, along with black widow species that can be found in garages, sheds, and barns. These spiders typically avoid human contact but may appear in undisturbed indoor spaces. Despite their reputation, most spiders in Oklahoma are beneficial for pest control. The combination of rural landscapes and warm weather ensures consistent spider activity throughout the state.
