13. Florida – American Alligator

Florida’s subtropical climate and abundant freshwater bodies make it prime habitat for the American Alligator — the state’s deadliest animal. These massive reptiles can exceed 13 feet in length and are often found in lakes, canals, swamps, and even suburban areas. While generally not aggressive, alligators will attack if provoked or if humans enter their territory, especially during mating season. Fatal encounters, though rare, typically occur when people swim in or near infested waters or try to feed them. Florida residents and visitors must heed “No Swimming” signs, keep pets away from water’s edge, and never approach or feed alligators.
