25. Maine – Moose
Moose are majestic but extremely dangerous animals in Maine, especially due to vehicle collisions. Weighing up to 1,500 pounds, they can cause devastating accidents when crossing roads, particularly at night. Unlike deer, moose are taller, and their bodies often collide directly with windshields, increasing fatality risk. While not typically aggressive, moose can become hostile during mating season or if provoked—charging with powerful hooves and antlers. Hikers and drivers alike must remain cautious in moose territory. Moose crossing signs should be heeded, and reduced speeds observed in rural and wooded areas. Never approach a moose, especially if it shows signs of agitation or has calves nearby.
