7. Alabama – Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake
The Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake is considered the deadliest animal in Alabama. This highly venomous pit viper is the largest rattlesnake species in North America. Found in dry, sandy, or pine flatwoods, it uses its camouflage to ambush prey. Unfortunately, this also makes it easy to encounter accidentally. Its bite injects hemotoxic venom that can destroy tissue, impair blood clotting, and lead to fatal complications if not treated swiftly. It rarely bites unless threatened, but when it does, the consequences are severe. Hikers and campers in Alabama should watch for rattlesnake warning signs, wear high boots, and avoid stepping into thick brush without visibility.
