10. Texas
Texas has one of the most diverse and widespread spider populations in the United States due to its large size, varied ecosystems, and warm climate. From deserts and grasslands to forests and urban areas, nearly every environment supports spider life. Common species include wolf spiders, jumping spiders, and orb-weavers, which are frequently found in homes, fields, and gardens. The state is also known for larger species such as Texas brown tarantulas, often seen during seasonal activity in rural regions. Texas is home to several medically significant spiders, including the western black widow, brown widow, and multiple recluse species like the brown recluse and Texas recluse. These spiders are usually hidden in undisturbed spaces such as garages, sheds, and wood piles. Due to its climate and geography, Texas maintains a consistently high spider population, making encounters with both common and venomous species relatively frequent across the state.
