11. Oklahoma
Oklahoma’s mix of prairie land, farmland, and warm seasonal climate creates strong conditions for spider populations to thrive. Open landscapes provide ideal hunting grounds for species that rely on ground movement and insect abundance. Common spiders include wolf spiders, grass spiders, and jumping spiders, which are frequently found in fields, lawns, and rural structures. Funnel-web spiders are also widespread and often build sheet-like webs in grassy areas, making them highly visible in outdoor environments. Oklahoma is particularly notable for its brown recluse population, one of the most well-known in the country, along with black widow species that inhabit barns, sheds, and storage spaces. These spiders typically remain hidden and avoid human interaction but may appear in undisturbed indoor areas. The combination of rural environments, warm temperatures, and abundant prey ensures consistent spider activity throughout the year across the state.
